American billionaire Sumner Redstone, owner of CBS and Viacom media conglomerates, died on Tuesday, August 11, at the age of 97 years. Sumner Redstone, whose father owned a small chain of automotive cinema, has created a media Empire working in TV, film, radio and books, which includes Viacom, Paramount Pictures, CBS Corp., MTV, Comedy Central and Nickelodeon.Owned by his holding company National Amusements, Mr. Redstone controlled 80% of Viacom and CBS, which between 2000 and 2005 were part of one company, then split, and in 2019 again agreed to merge. They now exist in a consolidated company ViacomCBS. Mr. Redstone is Chairman of the Board of Directors of Viacom for more than 30 years after its acquisition in 1987, a time he also was CEO of CBS, 2016 served as honorary Chairman of the Board of Directors of both companies, and then the combined company.
