After conceding a late equalizer against Troyes, Marseille was unable to move up three points in second place in France’s league.

After playmaker Dimitri Payet’s penalty gave Marseille the lead in the 28th minute, Yoann Touzghar, Marseille’s striker, took advantage of poor Marseille defense to score an equalizer. Payet scored the ninth league goal of his club, which was also his club-leading ninth.

The second place guarantee entry into the Champions League next season, while Marseille is one point behind Nice in third and a playoff spot.

Lyon scored a late equalizer to win the 1-0 victory over Lille, the defending champion.

Lille goalkeeper Leo Jardim saved Moussa Dembele, center forward, from a missed chance. Lille scored its first goal on target in the 35th.

Thiago Mendes dragged a cross from the left into Gabriel Gudmundsson’s path, but he was too slow to do so. He volleyed home from close range.

Jardim was able to save Lucas Paqueta, a midfielder, in the 76th, but was beaten in the 86th. After Jardim had missed his kick, Paqueta took possession of the ball and kicked it to the ground. After Jardim’s kick, Paqueta attempted to roll the ball in but was disqualified by a video review.

Lille is now 8th, while Lyon fell to 10th.
