Saxony’s Prime Minister Kretschmer speaks out against too much energy saving at Christmas time: “People in Germany need the light at Christmas time”.

SPD faction deputy Matthias Miersch calls for additional relief for citizens with regard to energy prices. “We also need solutions for January and February as well as hardship solutions for other energy sources such as oil,” said Miersch “BILD am SONNTAG”. He relies on changes to the bill in the parliamentary process. Miersch: “From March we will apply the price brake. But for those who already have hardly any money left at the end of the month, March is still too far away.”

According to the Commission of Experts’ plans so far, the government’s assumption of the December installment payment for gas and district heating will only make itself felt with tenants when the utility bills are settled in the coming year. The “Haus und Grund” association refuses to quickly pass on the down payment. President Kai H. Warnecke: “We cannot compensate for government failure and implement every crazy idea.” It is simply not possible to implement the relief with the December rent.

Harsh criticism of the delayed discharge comes from Saxony’s Prime Minister Michael Kretschmer (CDU). He demands that the relief “really reaches the people in December”. Kretschmer on “BILD am SONNTAG”: “There is an urgent need to take countermeasures here.” It should not be that most tenants “only see the December discount sometime in 2023”.

Kretschmer also spoke out against too much energy saving during the Christmas season: “People in Germany need light during the Christmas season. Christmas markets and lighting are part of our culture.”
