WATFORD (AP) — Manchester City, the defending champion, was at the top of the English Premier League after a convincing 3-1 win over Watford on Saturday.

City won the title race by taking advantage of Chelsea’s loss to make Bernardo Silva two wins.

After winning five of its league games, City is now one point ahead Liverpool and two ahead of Chelsea.

City took the lead in just four minutes. Silva made it double in the 31st minute by weaving past two defenders and then securing the ball past Daniel Bachmann.

City dominated the first period with 81% possession. Silva scored the third goal with a clever curling effort in the top corner of the 63rd.

Cucho Hernandez scored a second Watford goal to give Pep Guardiola’s team a ninth clean sheet.
