Alright, so here we have a bunch of Democratic DAs and county attorneys from Texas getting all riled up and filing lawsuits against Attorney General Ken Paxton. They’re not too happy about some new rules he’s trying to impose, claiming it’s stepping all over their independence and breaking the state constitution. The gang of prosecutors includes John Creuzot from Dallas County, Sean Teare from Harris County, Joe Gonzales from Bexar County, Delia Garza from Travis County, and Christina Sanchez from El Paso County. They’re all teaming up to take down Paxton’s regulations, which they say go beyond what he’s allowed to do.
Paxton’s new rules basically demand that district and county attorneys spill all the beans to his office if they’re in a county with over 400,000 people. They have to dish out info on indictments against police officers and poll workers, chat logs with federal authorities, office policies, and even internal emails. Gonzales from Bexar County isn’t having any of it, saying these requirements are just wasting time and money that could be better spent on going after the bad guys. But Paxton insists he’s just trying to keep those rogue DAs in check, threatening to kick them out if they don’t play by his rules.
The prosecutors are firing back, saying Paxton’s targeting them unfairly and trying to keep them from doing their jobs. They’re not too pleased that only a handful of counties have to deal with this new rule, and most of them happen to lean Democratic. Creuzot is calling Paxton out, saying he should be uniting all the DAs in the pursuit of justice instead of picking fights with the big-city Democrats. It’s a whole mess, with Garza and Sanchez also jumping in on the action, claiming Paxton’s overstepping his boundaries and causing chaos with all these extra administrative tasks. Looks like things are heating up in Texas, and it’s anyone’s guess how this showdown will play out.
