Japan is not changing its position on the southern Kuril Islands and sign a peace agreement in connection with a vote in Russia on amendments to the Constitution, said the Secretary General of the Cabinet of Ministers of Japan Acehide Suga.

According to him, the government of Japan is closely following the developments in Russian domestic and foreign policy, however, as the government has not commented on the amendments to the Constitution, reports TASS.

“In our position, which is to continue close talks aimed at resolving the territorial issue and the subsequent signing of a peace Treaty, no change,” – said Suga.

In may the Japanese foreign Ministry in the report “the Blue book diplomacy” claimed Tokyo to qualify for the “Northern territories”. In response, the Russian foreign Ministry said that the decision is contrary to the spirit of Japan to the talks between the two countries, and invited the Japanese to “return to reality”.

Earlier, foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov made clear that the conclusion of a peace Treaty with Moscow in Japan should recognize the sovereignty of Russia over Kuriles, “and then, may be to discuss everything else.”

Recall, the constitutional amendment includes a ban on the alienation of the territories of the country.
