According to Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach, Germany is currently experiencing a “real summer wave.” But preparations for the Corona autumn are already underway at the same time. In a resolution paper by the health ministers of the federal states, which is available to the “Bild” newspaper, these authorities and rules are required of the federal government.

Schools should be kept open. That has “top priority.” Even major events should no longer be canceled “if at all possible”. In addition: According to “Bild”, the federal states are demanding “reliable and timely data on capacity, the burden on hospitals and the pandemic situation”, clarity on the “need for further booster vaccinations” and the procurement of drugs for the treatment of corona diseases.

Hard lockdowns like earlier in the pandemic should no longer exist. Federal Minister of Justice Marco Buschmann (FDP) no longer sees a basis for a number of previously used means to combat the pandemic after the expert report on the evaluation of the Corona measures. It can be “certainly said that interventions such as lockdowns, school closures and curfews are no longer proportionate,” said Buschmann on Friday in Berlin. “We no longer want to work with these instruments.”

On the other hand, indoor masks would certainly “play a role in the protection concept for autumn,” said Buschmann. The Minister of Justice was “very confident” that the traffic light coalition would “make a good proposal in July (…)” for action in the autumn and winter. On Friday, Buschmann discussed the future Infection Protection Act with Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD), the current version of which expires on September 23.
