In Hungary, archaeologists from the Museum Getcha found traces of surviving a 6,500-year-old idol, which had identified the image of a Neolithic Venus.
About the opening told the publication Hungary Today. Clay statuette was discovered during the excavations preceding the construction of highways in the city of Zalaegerszeg in the West of the country.
Previously, there have been excavated the remains of a settlement culture Lengyel – it was the Central European archaeological culture of the Neolithic period (4900-3400 BC). Researchers believe that Venus was made by the representative of the people.
Like this typical for this culture. Venus represented the goddess of nature and fertility. It is also tied to motherhood. The figurine was found during excavations of the object, which archaeologists call a cult.
Earlier, here they found fragments of pottery and other clay idols. The fact that all the artifacts have been preserved in fragments may indicate the holding of a religious rite. Perhaps the figures of idols, and the vessels during religious ceremonies was deliberately smashed to pieces and thrown into the sacrificial pit. It was an offering to the gods.
Venus was Found different from other Neolithic sculptures found earlier. First of all, scientists noted the high level of master, which she produced. Typically, these sculptures were cut without detail. However, in this case a female figure is carved very carefully and thoroughly, with high level of artistic performance. Scientists know only a few such sculptures of the Neolithic period.
