A young German died while climbing on a train. The accident happened on Saturday in Schärding, Austria. The 19-year-old probably came into contact with the high-voltage line.

A 19-year-old from Bavaria suffered severe burn injuries in an electrical accident at an Austrian train station and died. A police spokeswoman confirmed the man’s death on Sunday. The broadcaster ORF had previously reported about it. The man from the Freyung-Grafenau district climbed onto a locomotive in Schärding, Upper Austria, near the German border on Saturday. His motives for this remained unclear.

The fire brigade was alerted on Saturday after a witness noticed a loud bang and a cone of light. Instead of the suspected fire of a parked locomotive, the emergency services found the injured person on the ground in the area of the tracks. According to the police, he may have gotten into a high-voltage line beforehand. The man was flown by helicopter to a clinic in Vienna, where he died on Saturday evening.
