“When this happens, the body usually craves new simple carbohydrates straight away – it’s a vicious circle.

To escape this cycle, the next meal should be designed to stabilize blood sugar. This means: proteins, fiber and healthy fats are popular.

These three components slow the rate at which nutrients enter the bloodstream. In addition, they activate hormones that satisfy appetite.

Ideally, the three nutrients are absorbed through a large portion of protein-rich vegetables and nutritious fat sources.

“I rely on pumpkin seeds, lentils and avocados,” explains Nielsen. “Chickpeas, plant-based protein powder or hemp seeds are also ideal.”

What’s also good for the body: A combination of plenty of water and lots of fiber. This can help against the unpleasant, bloated feeling of fullness.

The combination of fiber and water helps flush the digestive system, which can reduce bloating.

You also feel fuller for longer, which means you have better control over your eating behavior the next day. Going shopping when you’re hungry and having to decide on groceries isn’t a good idea – lots of unhealthy things end up in your shopping cart.

It is therefore ideal to start the day with carbohydrates rich in fiber such as whole grain products. You should drink at least one and a half to two liters of water or unsweetened tea every day.

After a week, this healthy diet should recalibrate your digestive system and break cravings for unhealthy sweets.

One of the main reasons too much sugar makes you feel unwell is because it increases blood sugar levels, thereby increasing inflammation in the body.

She recommends making a green smoothie with half a cup of parsley, a few stalks of celery, some cucumber and a piece of ginger, as well as fresh lemon juice.

The ginger is a great way to combat nausea and the acidity of the lemon not only soothes the stomach, but also makes the whole smoothie that much more delicious.
