It all started with a knock on the door: 56-year-old Dawn Baxter and her partner Anthony, who is 23 years younger, defy social conventions.
As the Mirror reports, 56-year-old Dawn Baxter from Guildford, Surrey, shares an unusual resemblance to Hollywood actress Anne Hathaway’s new film character. In “When You Saw Me,” Hathaway plays an older woman who falls in love with a younger man – a situation Baxter knows all too well. Alongside her 33-year-old boyfriend Anthony, she challenges common social norms.
After a turbulent life that was in ruins due to an unhappy marriage, Dawn Baxter moved into a house rented by her sister. There she met Anthony Smith, an attractive electrician and part-time model. They got along well, but Dawn initially had no interest in a man. But then an “electricity” developed between the two.
Dawn says: “Suddenly I felt these waves of desire and didn’t know how to deal with them. Part of me wanted to live it out. But I was scared, I didn’t know what would happen if I did it.” Then one night he knocked on her bedroom door.
As they write in the Mirror, the initial attraction between the two was considerable. Despite her fear and insecurity surrounding her sexual inexperience, Baxter decided to explore her feelings and found an understanding partner in Anthony. “I couldn’t believe he wanted me. But in his eyes I was beautiful and sexy,” says Dawn, describing their attraction to each other to the Mirror.
The relationship between the two, although unconventional, has proven resilient to the judgments of third parties. Dawn Baxter is quoted as saying that “No one bats an eyelid when there is an older man and his young girlfriend. But when they’re reversed, the message becomes loud and clear: This will never work. We prove them wrong.”
With the support of their sons and despite occasional skepticism from outsiders, the couple have now happily continued their relationship for three years. Baxter expresses hope that her story can encourage other women not to be put off by societal age norms.
Above all, Dawn is inspired by the fact that her young, attractive partner stands by her. In the “Mirror” she recalls an incident in a restaurant where the people at the next table looked in her direction. Her partner also noticed this and simply pulled his girlfriend towards him and kissed her. The 56-year-old says: “The fact that he was so comfortable with the world knowing that we were a couple was incredible. He gave me so much self-confidence.”
Anthony also shows a resilient attitude towards the judgments of others. He is quoted as saying: “To me, Dawn is just an incredible woman and the right woman for me. Other people’s comments, judgments or raised eyebrows don’t bother me at all.”
54-year-old Michelle also feels the same way about her relationship. She found great happiness in her husband Brandon, who is 21 years her junior. She says she would find older men “boring.” The two are now married.
