The expulsion of goalkeeping coach Toni Tapalovic has recently caused a lot of unrest at FC Bayern. Now FCB captain Manuel Neuer has commented on this for the first time and made it clear that he cannot understand the decision of those responsible in Munich. The 36-year-old chose very drastic words.
No interviews, no statements, no comments. Manuel Neuer has completely withdrawn from the public eye in recent weeks – until now. In an interview with the British portal “The Athletic” and the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, the Bayern professional spoke for the first time about the dismissal of his longtime friend and confidante Toni Tapalovic.
The 36-year-old made it very clear that Tapalovic’s expulsion is a major setback for him: “It was a blow for me – when I was already on the ground. I felt like my heart was being ripped out. That was the most brutal thing I’ve experienced in my career. And I’ve already experienced a lot.”
Neuer also makes no secret of the fact that he cannot understand the decision of the Bayern bosses at all: “There was no reason that I could understand. Things have been said that I disagree with. Nothing I’ve heard has ruled out the possibility of talking and working things out.”
Officially, the Munich team separated from the 42-year-old because there were “differences in working together”. Rumor has it that Tapalovic has fallen out with head coach Julian Nagelsmann.
It is piquant: According to his own statements, after the Tapalovic exit, Neuer also dealt with his personal future with the German record champions. A departure doesn’t seem to be out of the question for him anymore. “I’ve been thinking about all sorts of things, including my future at the club.”
However, Hasan Salihamidzic and those responsible at Bayern are said to have assured the national player that Tapalovic’s expulsion had nothing to do with him: “The Bayern managers assured me that this is not the case. I said I disagreed with the reasons given and I felt I was heard.”
