how competently to approach to archival documents and to get them to talk, to the correspondent “RG” told the experts – Boris Pudalov, head of Committee on Affairs of archives of Nizhny Novgorod region, Ivan Trukhanov, a local historian from Dzerzhinsk.

can the regional archives to help people find information about missing in the years of the great Patriotic war or is it the prerogative of the archive of the Ministry of defense? For example, could your help to find the burial place of the soldier, if known only to the personal data of the soldier and the approximate date and place of death?

Boris Pudalov: the Source of all information on the participation of citizens in the great Patriotic war, including about the missing archives of the defense Ministry, first and foremost, the Central archive of the Ministry of defense (TSAMO) in Podolsk. The regional state archives almost can’t help in the search for such information – about the recruitment into the Armed forces or on participation in hostilities, nor about the fate of the soldier.

In some large public archives of constituent entities of the Russian Federation, including in the Central archive of Nizhny Novgorod region (TSANO), there is deposited a collection of documents about the great Patriotic war, mostly personal origin. Typically, this is collected by the archivists or received from citizens letters and memoirs of participants of war and workers of rear. Huge rare are the diary entries of soldiers, because the Soviet soldiers were forbidden to keep diaries. In the collector’s personal papers, mostly in the texts of the front of the letters mention the death of fellow soldiers (fellow or mutual friends with the recipient), sometimes even with a description of the circumstances of the death. It is possible that in some cases such information may be of interest to descendants of the deceased soldier. Therefore, Nizhny Novgorod archivists have tried to publish all the available storage on the front of the letter. To date, published two volumes entitled lines from the letters: “I’m still alive…” and “Hello, my dear!”

And yet the probability to find in regional archives information about the fate of the missing soldier too ephemeral. Usually everything decides not to archive, and job search groups in the field fighting. Judge this by our family experience.

What you need to do (for the points) in order to obtain access to documents of antiquity? Scribe books, for example?

Boris Pudalov: the sequence of actions of a person who wants to study archival documents, is always the same. The first thing we should start, this mastery through the tutorials in the skills of working with documentary sources because “the manuscripts do not speak, if not to learn how to understand them”. Second, the definition of archives in which likely must or may be kept interested in the documents. Third: introduction to the guide of interest to the archive (they’re all freely available, including on the network). Fourth: try to find in the Internet the inventory of interest to the archives (a considerable part is laid out for easy access; inventory or catalogs are the most valuable funds even published in one form or another). Fifth: to visit the archive (mandatory passport or other identity document), write a statement in the prescribed form about the desire to work with documents on a particular topic. If necessary, you can consult the staff of the reading room (recommended). By the way, in the reading rooms TSANO and other archives in Nizhny Novgorod region, along with printed copies of guides and handbooks for funds, there are guidelines for search documents.

Ivan Trukhanov: will Share his experience as an ethnographer. After received a pass in the reading room, you can issue a demand to your business. If the person is inexperienced, the staff of the reading room, most likely, will suggest to search in the electronic inventory of the archive. In TSANO most popular researchers Fund 570 “Nizhny Novgorod spiritual Consistory, spiritual Board and of the Church of the Nizhny Novgorod diocese”. It kept registers of births, revision lists tales, confessional paintings – documents that contain personal information about the person. These documents cover the period from the second half of the XVIII and early XX centuries.

the earlier documents can be found in the Russian state archive of ancient acts (RGADA) in Moscow. Inventory there completely digitized and posted on the Internet. It is possible to prepare for the visit of archive.

In documents from researchers looking for information primarily in Fund 350 “Sandratskii books and census tales”. It has been digitized, but is available only on computer in the reading room. With the Internet it is laid out. Plus computer work in RGADA is that you can make a free photo of your computer screen. Minus – very slow work of the computer. More ancient documents – pistsovye books – mostly not digitized. They can be issued in the original or on microfilm at a pre-designed requirement.

How soon after treatment a person can get access to the documents?

Boris Pudalov: to order, you need to specify the stock room, inventory, business, year, and title. Turn to the results of the cases large, and the clerk prior to issuance is required to view the integrity of the entire document, i.e. scroll through a book of impressive scope, so the register of births issued a few months after receipt of the application. Acceleration performance of akaz is possible for a fee.

TSANO periodically conducts a study most in demand by visitors to the reading room funds. The most popular of them – 570 and 60 are stored in the last revision lists. View records in the reading room.

Some of the citizens expressed in social networks, that the tolerance of ordinary citizens to archival data, associated with the great Patriotic war (including documents, tsamo RF), is very limited and fraught with difficulties. Is it so?

Boris Pudalov: due To the fact that tsamo RF, and military commissariats are institutions of the Ministry of defence of the Russian Federation, their activity is regulated by departmental normative legal documents. Paired whether the admission of citizens in CAMD difficulties, can not judge, as never it did not work: there was no need. All information about my relatives – participants of the war survived in the family. And supplies relative to one or another military unit and its number are contained in the databases of CAMD is provided in the public domain.
