Bayern made it unnecessarily difficult for themselves in Wolfsburg and had to practice the game with a man down for more than half an hour “thanks” to Joshua Kimmich’s yellow-red card. It worked. Double packer Kingsley Coman and slalom dancer Jamal Musiala stood out in the 4-2 win against Wolves.

YANN SOMMER – NOTE 3: Was able to win a competitive game in Bayern dress for the first time in the DFB Cup. The Swiss national goalkeeper was still there at 1: 3, but ultimately without a chance to defend himself. Otherwise routine and safe.

JOAO CANCELO – NOTE 3: The loan from Manchester City was also convincing in his second competitive game. This time as a right-back in the back four with an offensive drive. Second game, second assist: Perfect cross to Coman before he made it 2-0.

BENJAMIN PAVARD – NOTE 3: Closing the shop inside is more important to the French than running up and down the right side. Instead of Upamecano (Zehblessur) with factual game against Wolfsburg’s wind. At 1:3 not in the picture.

MATTHIJS DE LIGT – NOTE 4: The Dutchman as a clear boss on the defensive and loud organizer. However, it came too late when the Wolves scored 1:3 through Kaminski. Looked bad at 2: 4, was duped.

ALPHONSO DAVIES – NOTE 4: Pretty erratic, with some ball losses and stick errors, even when moving backwards. His header goal in Mainz was probably not a knot loosener. Often too unfocused defensively.

JOSHUA KIMMICH – NOTE 5: Before the kick-off, Nagelsmann called it the “best six in the world” thanks to the “intoxicating manner”. His fouls, with which he was sent off after 54 minutes with yellow and red, were also enthralling. The only plus point: hit the cross to Müller’s header to make it 3-0.

LEON GORETZKA – NOTE 4: Back in the team as Kimmich’s co-worker in central midfield. But somehow the drive that characterizes him so much thanks to his power was missing. Too sluggish in some scenes. After Kimmich’s red and Müller’s replacement as captain, all the more required.

JAMAL MUSIALA – NOTE 2: Had his 2023 can opener goal in Mainz. With strong dribbling, space-opening passes and a goal of the month in the slalom run past six wolves to make it 4:2. One of the few in the team who could hold the ball for a long time.

LEROY SANÉ – NOTE 5: Came over the right flank as a left foot, often moved to the middle. However, he veered off quite early in many actions, often not sprinting to the goal with a train. Went into the dressing room after being substituted (61st) without a greeting or high five, peppered his gloves away.

KINGSLEY COMAN – NOTE 2: His cross on Müller became an unintentional shot, but the volley was perfect – 1: 0 and 2: 0, only (!) the season goals two and three of the winger. Out early (beat?) after 55 minutes.

THOMAS MÜLLER – NOTE 3: Instead of the sick Choupo-Moting (gastrointestinal infection) striker, hit a head to 3-0, the 13th Bundesliga goal of the captain against favorite opponent Wolfsburg. Caught up with club legend Gerd Müller, who has recorded the most Bundesliga appearances of any outfield player for FC Bayern to date, namely 427.

SERGE GNABRY – NOTE 4: Came for Coman (55th), acted as a fluid tip, especially outnumbered. Without a big scene and effect in the offensive game.

MATHYS TEL – NOTE 4: The 17-year-old teenage talent should provide relief after being substituted (61st) with his speed. Lost a lot of balls, missed once promising.

JOSIP STANISIC – NOTE 3: The native of Munich is suffering from a tendon injury, but had to work due to the lack of personnel and Kimmich’s red. Defended from the 61st minute at the back left. Solid.

DALEY BLIND and PAUL WANNER (both 78th and up) were late to judge.
