Low mortality in Germany from COVID-19 may be associated with a strong health care system and the peculiarities of the German mentality. So said German epidemiologist Tobias Kurth.

In an interview owned by Grigory Berezkin RBC expert said that Germany has come to the pandemic in a state of high alert.

“we had time to prepare for the epidemic. Our healthcare system was well prepared, but we have strengthened it even stronger,” said Kurt.

In the end, Germany was able to quickly knock down the rate of spread of the virus at an early stage.

In addition, low mortality could be a result of the social conditions of Germany.

As a rule, in this country, different generations of one family live separately. This led to the fact that older Germans obviously were in a safe environment.

In southern Europe, for example, the elderly often live in the same house with other family members. Therefore, in a pandemic they acquired from young relatives carrying the disease without symptoms, and died.

Now in the EU increases the probability of a second wave of coronavirus, but it can be avoided, the scientist believes. In his opinion, prevent the growth COVID-19 capable of three measures. This widespread testing and quarantining infected, their contacts, the use of masks and social distancing.
