Coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 is constantly changing, but it will not be more dangerous mutations, said the candidate of biological Sciences, head of laboratory of ecology of viruses of SIC fundamental and translational medicine Cyril Ershov in an interview with RT.
"Any virus that has a genome. It changes constantly. Even without the influence of external factors, mutations occur rarely, but with constant speed. External factors can affect the speed and nature of the mutations," he explained.
However, in order not to reach evolutionary dead end, a virus requires a low mortality rate, so the mutation must not be dangerous to humans, said the interlocutor of the channel.
"Strategy of the virus makes it to lower virulence over time, shown for the most relevant viruses. In General, high mortality is an evolutionary dead end for the virus," said Shirshov.
In his view, the coronavirus can be seasonal and in early summer, its distribution will cease, but will resume in a moderate form in October or November.
