Does true love exist? The majority of Americans believe true love exists. Most Americans have experienced it at one time or another. True love can be difficult to find. Less than one fifth of Americans believe most people have met true love. Many who have had it, especially women, say it is not what they expected.

For those who haven’t yet experienced true love, there are reasons to be hopeful. Americans are more likely than ever to have experienced true romance as they age. Most people who haven’t have any reason to believe that they haven’t found true love because they don’t believe it doesn’t exist.

Although nearly all Americans believe that true love exists, only a small percentage of Americans have actually experienced it. Eighty-six per cent of Americans believe true love exists. However, 67% claim to have experienced it.
Both men and women are more likely than men to admit that they have experienced it, but women (69%) are slightly more likely than men (64%).
True love can be unexpected once you find it. Half of people who claim to have found true love in their lives at one time or another also admit that it was not what they expected. This is more common for women than it is for men.

Younger adults are more likely to have difficulty finding true love. Just over half of those under 30 say they have. However, perseverance can pay off: Three out of four seniors over 65 are more likely than younger Americans to claim that they have experienced true love.
The majority of Americans who are married claim to have experienced true love, though 15% claim they haven’t. While most Americans who have been separated or divorced say they have experienced true romance, they say so in a smaller number of cases and are more likely to say that it was not what they expected. Single Americans, who tend to be younger than those who have been married, say that they have not experienced true love.
Fiction may not be the best guide for finding true love. Six out of 10 Americans believe romance novels and romantic rom-coms make it easier to find true love than it is.
It may seem difficult to find true love, but Americans may see it differently when they look at others. Only 18% believe most people have ever found true love. However, the majority of Americans believe at least
some have found true love. People who have experienced true love are more likely than others to share their experience.
It seems that many Americans still believe in true love, even though they are only one third of the total number. Most people who were asked why they hadn’t experienced true love before said that they didn’t know how to find it.
