A serious accident occurred at Berlin Central Station on Wednesday afternoon. According to the police, a woman and a child came under ICE. The woman died at the scene of the accident and the child was taken to the clinic by rescue helicopter.

The train station is therefore completely closed on Wednesday evening. As the federal police announced, the closure is expected to last until the evening hours. The S-Bahn Berlin also reported that train traffic on lines S3, S5 and S7 between Friedrichsstrasse and Tiergarten is interrupted. The state police have taken over the investigation, reported the rbb.

A fire department spokesman told the “Berliner Zeitung” that it is currently assumed that the woman acted with suicidal intent. The fire department received several emergency calls around 6:20 p.m. A rescue helicopter arrived about 20 minutes later. The woman was already dead by then, the spokesman said. The child apparently needs intensive care. The area was cordoned off over a large area. Around 50 rescue workers from the fire department, police officers and DB Security employees are still on duty. The Berlin fire department announced that additional people were being looked after by the emergency services.
