When looking for a coach in Mönchengladbach, Borussia’s sports director Roland Virkus is under increasing pressure: Three weeks after Adi Hütter’s departure, the preferred candidate Lucien Favre has canceled – three substitutes are now on the shortlist.
Favre puts Gladbach in trouble: A week after the termination of the employment relationship with coach Adi Hütter right after the end of the season, the news broke that ex-coach Lucien Favre was returning to Bökelberg. But there was no notification of completion from Mönchengladbach – Favre canceled. “You can be sure that we’ve done everything we can in the last two weeks, had a lot of talks,” said sporting director Roland Virkus at the Borussen general meeting.
Short, compact, clear
Players want clarity: The now hectic search for a coach is becoming particularly explosive because twelve player contracts (including Lars Stindl, Yann Sommer and Jonas Hofmann) will expire next summer. “Extend or sell” is the motto – but many of the kickers want to know which coach the foals are going into the new season with.
Three candidates remain: The new man on the Gladbacher Bank will be attached to the blemish of the B solution from the start. According to “Sky Sport”, Daniel Farke (formerly Norwich City), who is currently without a club, but also Hannes Wolf (U19 coach at DFB) are the top candidates. Ex-HSV star Vincent Kompany is only an outsider, the Belgian is about to be engaged at FC Burnley.
