The CEO of Hubert Burda Media, Martin Weiss, can imagine further acquisitions for the media group. After the best financial year ever, the group is looking positively at the current year – despite all the rising costs.

The media group Hubert Burda Media can imagine further acquisitions. CEO Martin Weiss announced on Monday that Burda, with its wide range of businesses in Germany and internationally, is excellently positioned and firmly anchored in people’s everyday lives with its products. “On this strong foundation we have the entrepreneurial, creative and financial power for acquisitions and innovations and we want to use them.”

According to the company, the Executive Board is optimistic about the current financial year – despite the challenges posed by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine and rising raw material, energy and logistics costs. At the end of the first quarter, the acquisition of the media business of the Swiss Edipresse Group in Poland was completed.

2021 was the best financial year in the company’s history for Burda, with sales of almost three billion euros, around six percent more than in the previous year, it said. In a recent interview with the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”, Weiss also spoke of an excellent earnings situation. The company did not disclose exact figures.

The Burda Group, with around 10,500 employees, has around 500 products in its portfolio in Germany and 13 other countries. Main locations in Germany are Offenburg in Baden-Württemberg and Munich. In addition to the classic publishing business (“Bunte”, “Focus”, “SuperIllu”, “Elle”), the group is also active in the investment business. Technology and digital play a major role in the portfolio. The professional network “Xing” and the travel platform “HolidayCheck” are also well known.

With digital business, Burda achieved sales of 1.7 billion euros in 2021 – an increase of 10 percent compared to the previous year, it said. The share of total sales is around 58 percent.
