The 16th Clean-up Campaign of Guaratuba Bay removed 3 tons of garbage from the islands, mangroves, and beaches on Saturday, June 8, World Oceans Day.

This year’s event saw an increase in the number of volunteers participating and a decrease in the amount of trash collected compared to last year, indicating possibly less pollution. In 2023, 504 people, 27 small boats, and a ferry boat were registered. This time, there were 620 volunteers, 40 boats, and once again, a ferry boat taking part in the initiative.

The event has been organized by the Guaju Institute since 2007, with various public and private partners, including the Coastal Courier. The coordinator of the event, Fabiano Cecílio da Silva, highlighted the involvement of children in this edition.
