The Secretary-General of the Alliance Jens Stoltenberg about the increasing military activity of Russia near the borders of NATO are contrary to common sense, in fact the opposite. This was at the briefing on Wednesday, said the official representative of the Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova.

So she commented on the interview of NATO Secretary General to the German newspaper WELT, in which he urged the organization to increase defence expenditure in view of the growing Russian threat to the borders of the Alliance. "Such statements, of course, contrary to the whole: and the logic, facts, common sense, generally some ideas about decency and respect to people who have learned to use the Internet. Everything is turned on its head, and it speaks to the lack of NATO historical memory, lost some orientation in place", – said Zakharov, answering the question TASS.

"Lord, do not Russia is close to NATO, and NATO is steadily expanding, continues to move in the direction of our borders, despite the 1990 agreement on the waiver expansion to the East. About them in NATO, apparently, also forgot" – explained the official representative of the foreign Ministry. However, she added that in some cases, the people entering into the North Atlantic bloc of countries was opposed to such a step.

In response to the words of Stoltenberg about the Russian activity in the Arctic and the Mediterranean Zakharova pointed to the absolute legality of the activities of the Russian Federation in these regions. So, she said that from 2015 Russia is involved in anti-terrorist operations in Syria at the invitation of the government of that state.

"the Russian ships were present in the Mediterranean sea for centuries. Perhaps this is not guess in the Alliance, and Mr. Stoltenberg are not aware of. When the Russian ships were already present in the Mediterranean, then NATO what no one knew, and there was no trace of this "wonderful" organization", – said the diplomat.

Russia is also in full compliance with international law to ensure their security in the Arctic despite the fact that more than 1/5 part of the country located to the North of the Arctic circle.

"Thus, in NATO, of course, we have prepared a diplomatic wording, again trying to justify his existence and capacity of financing by member countries [its armed forces] fully distorted facts about the imaginary Russian threat", – said Zakharov, noting that such statements are made by people who do not understand the world in which they live.
