Striker Anthony Modeste will not receive a new contract offer from 1. FC Köln for the time being. However, the popular player should still play with the Billy Goats in the future.

Uncertainties: In all likelihood, 1. FC Köln will initially not make any new offer for a collaboration after the end of his current contract in 2023 to fan favorite Anthony Modeste. However, since managing director Christian Keller would like to keep the striker in his own ranks, Modeste could possibly start the coming season without a new working paper for FC.

The reason: The reason for the action of the conference league club is said to be Modeste’s high salary and Cologne’s budget cuts of 20 percent, i.e. the club’s money problems. Even the change of midfield star Salih Özcan to Borussia Dortmund for five million euros does not change that.

Back and forth: A potential change for Modeste had made the headlines in the past few months. The 34-year-old recently had this himself with the words “Who said that I would change? Nobody” denied. Further talks with the association are to take place in the autumn.
