People in the public eye are constantly being badgered by their respective agents and managers to make an effort to date people who they will get on with, but who will also boost their profile in the process.

Sport is no different to this, with the lure of a fellow celebrity’s online following meaning that if two pro athletes can make their relationship work, their stars will rise infinitely faster than if they were on their own or they were dating a nobody.

Over the years this has made for some ultra-powerful sports couples, with the likes of Agassi-Graf, Beckham-Posh Spice and Woods-Vonn all coming to mind.

However, with all those names either retired or having parted ways, we thought we would look at who the new sporting power couples are and what they bring to the table.

Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird

If you are into your women’s team sports, then you will know what a sure-fire bet Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird have been for the last decade or so in their respective sports.

Rapinoe is of course the double World Cup winning megastar who has done so much to advance the women’s game of soccer in the US and all around the world, whilst Bird is a WNBA all-star and Olympic gold medalist.

It would be a brave man or woman who uses their sports free bet to wager against either of these two megastars, who show no signs of letting up.

Alphonso Davies and Jordyn Huitema

The Bayern Munich star Alphonso Davies is one of the best feel-good stories in sport, having gone from being a destitute refugee from Liberia, to lifting the 20/21 Champions League trophy with his adopted club.

His partner in crime is none other than fellow footballing sensation Jordyn Huitema, a Canadian star who plies her trade for París Saint-Germain.

The two starlets are inseparable on social media and if their careers continue to progress at their current speed, they could be on course to be soccer’s next power couple.

Aaron Rodgers and Danica Patrick

Both racing driver Patrick and football chucker Rodgers are coming to the twilight of their respective sporting careers, but they make this list for looking about half their age and still living life to the full.

Unfortunately, their relationship recently hit the rocks just as wedding bells could be heard ringing in the distance, although their fans still hold out hope that a reunion could be on the cards; however, this is unlikely if Rodgers keeps hanging out with Hollywood actresses in front of cozy log fires.

Pernille Harder and Magdalena Eriksson

While Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird may be the main women’s soccer power couple on one side of the Atlantic, on the European side that crown undoubtedly goes to Pernille Harder and Magdalena Eriksson, two international Scandinavian stars who turned heads at the 2019 World Cup when they kissed after an emotional victory for Eriksson’s Sweden.

The couple are now regularly seen on red carpets as well as strutting their stuff out on professional football fields. It does make you wonder why more all-male footballing couples do not take the plunge and go public, but at least for now Harder and Eriksson have shown them the way.

Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils

There is nothing new about fireworks sparking between a player from the women’s WTA Tour and the men’s ATP Tour, with both tours consistently overlapping throughout the year.

However, with so much travel and training involved there are few tennis relationships which ever stay the course.

That seemed to be what happened with Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils, who were reported to have split in the summer of 2019, only to get back together soon after. They are now regularly seen together online and offline, as they live out the touring tennis pro dream.
