Malik Tillman from FC Bayern Munich will no longer play for Germany in the future – although the striker has already played for the German U-national teams. The decision against the DFB came out of the blue.

For the USA: 19-year-old Malik Tillman had not been called up for the U21 squad for the European Championship qualifiers against Hungary (June 3) and Poland (June 7, 2022). Coach Antonio Di Salvo has now confirmed the reason for the non-nomination: Tillman wants to play for the USA, his father’s country of birth, in the future.

Disappointment at the DFB: “We regret Malik’s decision and it surprised us very much,” said Di Salvo (42) to the “kicker”. “We encouraged him as a younger player in the U21s, placed a lot of trust in him and gave him match practice. In addition, we were in intensive exchange regarding his prospects up to the senior national team.”

Change possible: Malik Tillman, born in Nuremberg, brother of the Fürth professional Timothy (23), already played two games for the USA in the U15 before he went through all the U-teams of the German Football Association and recently also four games for the U21 denied. A change is possible because Tillman has not yet completed an international match for Germany.
