Asterisks instead of stars on the stage: The “ZDF Fernsehgarten” is probably on a downward slide. The live audience looks more than just confused and the celebrities have to be insulted too.

There are almost 250 kilometers by car between the amphitheater in Gelsenkirchen’s Nordsternpark and Mainz-Lerchenberg, and yet whole hit worlds separate these two places this weekend. On Saturday evening, Florian Silbereisen celebrated “The Big Schlager Beach Party 2022” on Rhein-Herne-Strand – with Roland Kaiser, Howard Carpendale, Andreas Gabalier and Marianne Rosenberg, among others. And the “ZDF television garden” like that? Due to a lack of stars, he has to play Wolfgang Petry himself.

“Attention, we’re going to sing soon,” Andrea “Kiwi”kievel swears in her garden community, and the abyss of acoustic hell opens wide: “That’s crazy, why are you sending me to hell,” roars Kiewel – this time actually in the Kiwi – dressed in green trousers – into the microphone. Why this vocal performance? No idea, but it doesn’t matter either, because it doesn’t really get any better: Anna-Maria Zimmermann sings “I’ve missed you so much”. A compliment that unfortunately cannot be returned.

On this hit Sunday, Kiewel has to be satisfied with what Florian Silbereisen has left; only Oli P. teleported from Gelsenkirchen to Lerchenberg overnight. Prince Damian, Adiama, Claudia Jung, Ricky Maier and Die Schürzenjäger – all of this sounds more like the opening of a furniture store than a “ZDF television garden”.

For this purpose, Kiewel has brought a few teasing leisure games with him: the hit motto of the show was supplemented by “powerful sports” in a creative attack by the broadcaster. Who keeps the ping-pong ball in the air with the racket for as long as possible? Elsewhere, occupational therapy in a retirement home goes through as a trend sport on ZDF.

This is followed by a kind of “Monday Painter” with hit titles, this time the audience on the sofa in front of the TV can also join in. Apparently, the TV fees are no longer enough for ZDF and it has to make a little extra money on the winning phone (14 cents per minute or more for everyone who calls via cell phone). You can get a table tennis table – who doesn’t want to hit that?

A handful of male guests from near Düren, and certainly not just apple juice in a glass, brought meatballs with them, and Kiwi likes to grab them: “Yummy, yummy, yummy!” bowling clubs. Neither speaks for a quality offensive and could be one of the reasons why Schlager stars are now largely bypassing the “TV garden”.

It then becomes finally schizophrenic with the appearance of Wolfgangtrepper and his stage program “More hookers, more coke – fuck the strawberries”. The cabaret artist of the “Old White Man” type can happily taunt the show itself and its last remaining musical guests on a GEZ ticket – probably in the secret ZDF hope of alienating the last “Fernsehgarten” fans and pop singers. The live audience on the Lerchenberg, at least, looks mostly confused to dismayed. Apparently, solo entertainer really means that one is entertaining all alone.

With this hit Sunday, the “ZDF TV Garden” has reassessed the bottom of this summer. Next Sunday will be a mountain festival with episode 10 and the motto “summer party”, as Kiewel already hopefully announces. It is quite possible that she is even right: After the low blow on this hit Sunday, things can only go up.
