Marco Rose is no longer the coach of Borussia Dortmund. This was surprisingly announced by the club on Friday. An intensive analysis showed that “the maximum was not made of the possibilities,” said club boss Hans-Joachim Watzke.

Borussia Dortmund has parted ways with head coach Marco Rose. “This is the result of an intensive season analysis on Thursday, in which Hans-Joachim Watzke, Michael Zorc, Sebastian Kehl and Matthias Sammer took part in addition to Rose,” said the club.

According to information from “Sky Sport”, Edin Terzic will be the new coach at BVB. The announcement of the Terzic personnel should therefore take place this weekend.

Terzic had already trained the team on an interim basis after BVB parted ways with Lucien Favre. Under his leadership, the team won the DFB Cup in 2021. Terzic is currently Technical Director.

“This day is not an easy one for any of us, because the mutual respect among each other was, is and remains great. After a season that was unsatisfactory for various reasons, we had to realize that we didn’t get the most out of our opportunities in many areas,” Watzke said in a club statement.

Rose’s co-trainers Alexander Zickler and Rene Maric as well as athletics trainer Patrick Eibenberger also have to leave the club.

Rose had only taken over Borussia before last season. He finished second in the table with BVB, but could not seriously threaten FC Bayern Munich at the top of the table. With a lead of eight points, Bayern became German champions again this year.

In the Champions League, BVB was eliminated after the preliminary round. In the subsequent qualification for the knockout phase of the Europa League, Dortmund failed at eventual finalists Glasgow Rangers. In the DFB Cup it was over after the round of 16 at FC St. Pauli.

“Despite a difficult season with many imponderables, I was convinced of our path,” said Rose, who switched from Borussia Mönchengladbach to BVB last summer.

“During our conversation I got the impression that the 100% conviction of those responsible is no longer there. Ultimately, we therefore decided together to end the cooperation.”

Rose was on the touchline in a total of 46 games for BVB. With 27 wins, four draws and 15 defeats, he could not convince the BVB bosses to stay.

According to information from the TV broadcaster Sky, Edin Terzic takes over the coaching position at BVB. According to the report, the announcement of the personnel should already take place this weekend.

Terzic took over BVB last season after Lucien Favre was released and looked after him for most of the season. He led Dortmund to victory in the DFB Cup and the Champions League. After Rose’s commitment, he became technical director at the Revierclub. He would be the logical successor candidate.
