Three Russian regions — Tyumen oblast, Khanty-Mansi Autonomous Okrug (KHMAO) and Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Okrug (YANAO) — can combine in the next year. This was announced by the Deputy of the state Duma Pavel Dorokhin, according to RIA Novosti.

According to Dorokhin, the question of unification of regions has long been debated, however, wide public debate was not carried.

“We still call her Big Tyumen oblast, and all perfectly understand it”, — he added.

The MP has proposed to put the issue to a referendum and added that it is possible to do it in 2021.

KHMAO and YANAO geographically located in the Tyumen region. In 1993 they received the status of equitable entities of the Russian Federation.
