For the first time ever, the members of the EUROPEAN Parliament fjernstemme to an extraordinary session Thursday.

It will be a somewhat different collection in the EU Parliament on Thursday, than the parliamentarians are accustomed to.

For the first time ever as the EUROPEAN Parliament’s political leaders decided to allow a temporary fjernafstemning per e-mail as a result of the situation with coronavirus.

It is the EUROPEAN president of the european Parliament, David Sassoli, who has called for an extraordinary session in Brussels on Thursday, where there will be voting on several initiatives to mitigate the impact of the coronapandemien.

And fjernafstemning is a good solution under these special circumstances, considers that the Danish parliamentarian Peter Kofod (DF).

– In the starting, I think it is best that you meet physically up, debating things, and finally decides what is majority to adopt.

– But I think this is a fine way to do it in this completely extraordinary situation, he says.

should Normally be members of the EU Parliament meet the physical up and cast their vote during the plenary sessions in either Strasbourg or Brussels.

But coronapandemien has, however, turned up and down at work in the EU Parliament.

Already 10. march chose David Sassoli to cancel many of the activities of the european Parliament in march.

In the background should the decision to do fjernafstemning possible be taken for a long time ago, believe Pernille Weiss (K), which is the Danish member of the conservative group in the EU Parliament.

Time is a crucial aspect in the here coronakrise. If we had had an emergency, so had already had a model for how to be able to continue the work and keep fjernafstemning in crisis situations, she says.

In the Danish Parliament in Denmark is it possible to use a clearingmodel, where not all mps need to be present at all of the votes in the chamber.

Here is the goal, that the absence of some members does not change the overall power between the parties, so that there remain decisions can be taken.

There is thus ensured that there is proportionately an equal number of members from the government and supporting parties as from the opposition parties.

A similar model would Pernille Weiss like to have spent in the EU-Parliament in this situation.

But a clearingmodel is not at all a possibility in the EU-Parliament, believes Peter Kofod.

– Clearingmodeller would not work in the EU Parliament, because the parties are so numerous and diverse in the different groups.

– I would not be able to give any other party the opportunity to vote for the Danish people’s behalf – what are the differences simply too great to in the group. For me it seems that such a model is quite impossible, he says.

Fjernafstemningen Thursday takes place by the members of the EUROPEAN Parliament will be sent to the ballot on e-mail.

Here, they must cast their vote and signature, then scan it in and send it back.
