the United States will impose sanctions against Chinese officials involved in restricting the entry of foreigners to Tibet, said Secretary of state Mike Pompeo.

“Access to Tibetan areas is becoming increasingly vital for regional stability. The American diplomats and other officials are not always able to get to this region,” Pompeo is quoted by RIA Novosti.

Tibet was included in China in the thirteenth century, but in its history there were periods of independence. Shortly after the founding of the PRC in 1949, Beijing and Lhasa signed an “Agreement on the peaceful liberation of Tibet”, according to which the region became part of China on the rights of the Autonomous region.
