the special representative of the President of the United States Donald trump on arms control Marshall Billingsley appreciated held in Vienna Russian-American consultations on strategic stability as very positive. He wrote about this in his Twitter.

Billingsley said the first constructive round of negotiations. “Discussed a wide range of issues relating to nuclear topics. In General, [has been achieved] the agreement on the second round,” wrote the special envoy of the trump.

Consultations on strategic stability and arms control were held behind closed doors, writes TASS. The Russian delegation was headed by Deputy foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov. The parties also discussed the issue of extending the Contract on reduction of strategic offensive arms (SNV-3).

Earlier, the Russian Ambassador in Washington Anatoly Antonov said that the extension of the start-3 will be one of the main topics of the meeting of representatives of Russia and the USA in Vienna. According to him, Russia is important to understand what are the future plans of the American party in respect of this agreement.

start-3, signed in 2010, is the only existing agreement between Russia and the USA on the limitation of armaments. The agreement expires in February 2021. Earlier, the President, Donald trump talked about the desire to develop new trilateral nuclear agreement between Russia, China and the United States. Beijing rejected this idea.
