The UN Secretary General was asked to punish the organizers of the demolition of the monument to Konev

Director of the Fund for the protection of the national heritage Ivan Melnikov demanded to bring to responsibility of the authorities of the Czech Prague 6, decided to demolish the monument to Soviet Marshal Ivan Konev.

In GSU SK Russia opened a criminal case over the desecration of symbols of Russia’s military glory, committed publicly. Russian investigators decided to prosecute the participants of the demolition of the monument to Konev. In a letter addressed to the UN Secretary General, antónio Guterres, said that the decision was contrary to the Convention concerning the protection of world cultural and natural heritage, adopted 16 November 1972 the General conference of the United Nations. Melnikov said that it is necessary to condemn desecrated the monument to Soviet Marshal “to the fullest extent of existing laws and norms of behavior in relation to manifestations of fascism, Nazism, racism and anti-Semitism” and to prepare a UN resolution.

the Expert recalled that Marshal Konev and his soldiers rescued Prague from destruction, and the Czech authorities are trying to desecrate the memory of the victims. Melnikov expressed confidence that the UN “condemned this inhuman act”.
