The Russians know about science from YouTube, Telegram and social networks

Over the past year, Russians in General have become more interested in science: if in 2018 the interest in the scientific field noted in his 59% by the end of 2019 these was already 66%, according to a study by the Institute of modern media (MOMRI) and the channel “Science”.

the study involved 1.6 thousand of Russians over the age of 18. It is not surprising that the main source of information about science for Russians is the Internet. The most popular channel for receiving news is social media. Every fifth participant in the study signed social networks on groups and channels dedicated to scientific topics.

In aggregate, 36% of young people aged 18-24 years among respondents and 28% of respondents 25-34 signed on thematic channels and groups.

social networking users are likely to subscribe to pages and channels dedicated to different fields of science, but some respondents prefer comprehensive resources on extensive scientific subjects: Education, “Science and education”, “Scientific facts” and others.

A signed on-page thematic magazines, online publications, TV channels: “Postnauka”, “National Geographic”.

the Most popular social network among fans of science was “Vkontakte”, where the respondents read publications of groups and communities (“Science and life”, “Science and technology”, “Around the world”, “Scientific facts”, “Popular mechanics”, “World around us”) and posts from the pages of people working in this field.

Some respondents subscribed to thematic video blogs on YouTube: QWERTY, Size, AlexGyver, “the World inside out”, “Obrenovac”, “Science and technology”, “Open University”.

Next in the list of channels of dissemination of scientific information page in Instagram, dedicated to medicine, psychology, technology, etc. interviewed face-to -best mentioned also a social network “Schoolmates” and Facebook and feeds in a Telegram messenger, not pointing out specific names.

Among TV sources of scientific information, you can allocate news on the Federal TV channels (“First”, “Russia 1”, “Culture”, “Ren TV”, “Russia 24”); informative channels (Discovery, National Geographic, “My planet”, “Science”); scientific-popular films and TV series.

the Printing press is not very popular, but respondents noted the news sections in the Newspapers (“Arguments and facts”, “statements”, “Arguments week”, “Komsomolskaya Pravda”); case log (“Science and technology”, “Around the world”, “Science and life”). Among radio-news, some participants called the “Echo of Moscow”, “Mayak”, “Silver rain”, “Radio Russia”.
