Scientists carried out a 3D survey of the cave Tauris with the help of a laser scanner to preserve its original appearance in digital form. The work allowed us to present the most complete three-dimensional picture of the open part of the cave. Investigated more than 1600 m of underground galleries and labyrinths. Thus, according to experts, in the unknown region can be several hundred metres hollow. Currently in Tauris made a number of major scientific discoveries in the field of paleontology, scientists also hope to discover in the area of the cave the remains of ancient people. After research of the Crimean cave will turn into a research hospital with a recreation complex, equipped for excursions.

Scientists of the Crimean Federal University of V. I. Vernadsky performed a 3D survey of the open part of the cave Tauris to keep its original appearance before conversion under tour visit. RT about it reported in a press-service of the University.

More than a month the researchers conducted a survey of underground caves using special three-dimensional scanner. During this time passed the whole open part of the Tauris — more than 1600 m. According to scientists, the work was hampered due to high humidity, low oxygen and lack of light.

“the Maximum range of the laser 3D-scanner — 60 m with a single point of shooting, but in this case, if you’re shooting on flat terrain. The cave Tavrida difficult terrain, so we were forced to remove every 60 cm, and then edit the pictures manually. This long and complex work”, — said the discoverer of the cave, senior lecturer of geographical faculty of the University Gennady Samokhin.

According to him, the resulting work will be created colorful three-dimensional panorama of illuminated galleries and grottoes Tauris.

“the Problem with the lack of light we decided with the help of battery and led strips that are stretched along the galleries. They give a soft diffused light, and we have got very beautiful pictures,” said Samokhin.

The scientist stressed that the three-dimensional survey of the cave has a special value, as at the end of the research work Tauris will be fully converted into a tour visit, and after construction to its original appearance will be lost.

We will remind, the Crimean cave Tauris was opened by Gennady Samokhin in the summer of 2018 during the construction of the eponymous track from Simferopol to Sevastopol. It consists of the main galleries that are connected by mazes. The average height of the leaves of 6-8 m, width — not more than 4-5 m. the Depths of the cave was a Paradise for a paleontologist — scientists have discovered the oldest in Russia the remains of vertebrate animals age about 1.8 million years. Also learnede hope to discover in the area of the cave the remains of ancient people.

As RT reported in a press-service of the Kazan Federal University named after V. I. Vernadsky, is currently prepared project estimates of future scientific hospital with a recreation complex in the cave Tauris. However, the exact timing of the start and completion of works is still unknown. The researchers plan to open several hundred meters of underground labyrinths, and the construction will start only after completion of work, all scientific expeditions.
