While Athens prepares to face Sparta, an evil stranger arrives in the port of Piraeus. The hay several tens of thousands of Athenians, including Pericles, the strategist of the city. Twenty-five years later, in Book II of his History of the Peloponnesian war, Thucydides evokes the epidemic which he has bankrupt himself to die. Considered one of the founders of modern History, he dismisses all the myths and rumors to focus on the descriptions and rational explanations. It is the first historian to do so.
