The NATO Secretary General made statements on Europe and the containment of Russia

NATO wants to improve relations with its largest neighbour, Russia, has declared on opened on the eve of the Munich security conference, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg. According to him, members of the unit compete with Russia, which has become more self-confident and wants to return to the concept of spheres of influence in world politics.

In response, NATO enhances the containment of Russia and maintains sanctions against it, said Stoltenberg. At the same time, he misspoke, all NATO member States “committed to dialogue with Russia”, reports TASS.

NATO Secretary-General warned against attempts of distancing Europe from the United States: according to him, this not only would weaken the transatlantic Alliance, but also would threaten the unity of Europe, RIA Novosti reported. According to Stoltenberg, he believes not in Europe and the United States separately, and “only in the US and Europe together.”

He also said, NATO is not leaving Afghanistan, but the Alliance is ready to change the number of its troops in this country if the representatives of radical movement “the Taliban” (banned in Russia) will demonstrate a “willingness to stop the violence and to compromise”.

Earlier it was reported that the Taliban gave the us Ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad document with proposals for the establishment of a temporary ceasefire in Afghanistan for a period of 7-10 days. However, radical commanders and fighters of “Taliban” does not want to join the truce.

Earlier at the Munich security conference by the President of Lithuania Gitanos Nausea. In his speech he also spoke of the need of containment of Russia, justifying the deployment of U.S. troops in Lithuania “security threat” from our country.
