In the 30-ies of the last century, the country has embarked on an ambitious task of industrialization. New and modernized old industries industry desperately needed skilled professionals – engineers, technologists, constructors.

To solve this problem, 12 July 1930 the Presidium of VSNKh of the USSR adopted a decision about creation of the Moscow machine-tool Institute. And already in 1932 the first issue took place on the 29th of engineers. But from 1933 until the beginning of the great Patriotic war a new source of manpower has trained 824 specialist.

during the war the Institute has implemented more than ten major developments in military issues and the design of machine tools, particularly useful to the defence industry. For the 25th anniversary, which was celebrated in 1955, it had five faculties, which trained more than 3,500 engineers on seven specialties.

In the 1960-1970s, the Institute quickly developed a research on the most popular destinations. This adaptive control of technological processes; automation for single and small batch production; creation of automated and automatic systems, machines, new machine tools; development of advanced cutting tools etc. Leading scientists have created a fundamental monographs that reflect recent advances in science and technology. In honor of the 50th anniversary since the formation in 1980 the Institute was awarded the order of red banner of Labor.

In 1980-ies the development of industry required the development of information technologies and new approaches to the organization of production. They started to create and implement innovative cutting, abrasive and diamond tools. Then was created the first machines with computer numerical control (CNC) machines, flexible automated lines (GAL), flexible manufacturing system (FMS) with control from a computer. Then they began to train specialists in the specialty “Robots and robotic systems”, was organized by the faculty for retraining and advanced training. In December 1992 the Institute received the University status and new name – the Moscow state technological University (MGTU) “STANKIN”.

the twenty-first century marked the beginning of a new industrial revolution. And “STANKIN” is not behind the times, one of the first switched to a multi-level system of training bachelors, masters and specialists. The main criterion was their ability to provide effective development of production as a complex integrated system, which required knowledge of equipment and information infrastructure, but also understanding business processes. Not accidentally, the graduates of MSTU “STANKIN” is especially in demand from industrial enterprises. They have competencies in both traditional and digitalovogo, have experience in project planning and creative design teams. Popular with University entrants. Over the last 3 years the number of students increased by 16 percent, the average score of the exam in some areas training has increased to 80, and the range of customers targeted learning has grown significantly.

the University regularly hosts events on vocational guidance and employment of students and graduates. They are leading enterprises included in the state corporations rostec, Russia’s Roscosmos, Rosatom, United aircraft and United shipbuilding corporations, etc. Graduates receive offers from companies and make a brilliant career.

the demands of modern industry are changing rapidly. With this in mind, the University developed and implemented new educational programs and sections: “Production engineering”, “Management of environmental and production risks in engineering”, “Medical robotics and mechatronics”, “Management of high-tech business”, “management System corporate knowledge”, “Intellectual systems of management in the digital economy and Industry 4.0”.

the Scientific activity is aimed at implementation of projects on creation of import-substituting machine tool production and coordination of technological re-equipment of engineering enterprises. The contribution of the scientific-pedagogical staff of the University in the progress of science and technology is highly appreciated – 120 won various awards, prizes and diplomas presented at international and industry competitions. 8 representatives of the University became laureates of the RF government prize in science and technology, 7 was awarded the RF government prize in science and technology for young scientists, 3 government prize in education.

One of the important results of the work of the University is the development of project activities. Customers of the University are such leading enterprises as “Concern aerospace defense “Almaz-Antey”, “ODK-Klimov”, Russian Federal nuclear center – all-Russian research Institute of experimental physics, “Tulsky Oruzheiny Zavod”, “Tekhnomash” company “RKB “Globus” and others. Organized business partnership with such leading national organizations as the company “Gazprom”, “RSC “Energia”, the SKOLKOVO Institute of science and technology.

the University opened a Coworking center “boiling Point” as the base of the crystallization of breakthrough projects of students and young scientists in the field of digital transformation engineering, the development of industrial Internet of things, cyber-physical production systems and their security. “MACHINES” is a platform piloting of innovative solutions in the framework of the agreement with the innovation Agency of the city of Moscow, in 2020 participates in the activities of the Moscow innovation cluster.

Develop and international relations of the University with universities and enterprises in Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Italy, Poland, China, Syria, USA, South Korea. In recent years, signed new agreements on cooperation with universities of Italy, Bulgaria, China, Hungary, Syria, Uzbekistan, Lebanon, Kazakhstan, Belarus, the Beijing Association for the promotion of international cooperation in education and number of universities in the African countries. Implementing a program of cooperation with the Technical University of Graz (Austria), which includes the exchange of students and professors, preparing a double-degree program, as well as with the Higher technical school of Zurich (Switzerland) scientific staff involved in the implementation of contemporary English-language program of professional development of “industry 4.0”.

the MSTU “STANKIN” is constantly expanding the cooperation in the framework of the national projects. Is an international multidisciplinary Olympiad “BRIDGE”, designed to support the intellectual development of young people from among the compatriots living abroad, and to assist in the promotion of the Russian language outside Russia. In 2019 it was attended by over 3,000 people and their number is growing every year.

the University established the alumni Association, whose goal is the formation of strong ties with the University, the establishment of the succession of generations of students, faculty and staff of the University.

One of the oldest technological universities in the country celebrates 90 years. But he is full of energy and creativity, breakthrough ideas and enthusiasm, in all ages, characteristic of youth. MSTU “STANKIN” is celebrating the anniversary with new plans, promising areas of research, original projects.
