The international space station (ISS) will get a new toilet. It is stated in the report published on the NASA website.

Samples of the universal waste management system (UWMS) was purchased in 2015, its integration with the ISS will be until the end of the year. The new toilet is radically different from the old smaller mass, the presence of the metering pump and device for pre-treatment of urine, through which wastes can be effectively recycled in the water.

According to engineers at NASA, the new toilet system is more comfortable for use in opposite-sex crew of the space station. The toilet was modified the shape of the seat, adapted for each crew member. It is planned that the UWMS will be delivered not only to the ISS but also in other missions, in connection with which the toilets will be serviced by the same standard.

The current toilet on the space station was developed in 1999 years and does not meet all technical requirements. In particular, when adjustment of the equipment there is a risk of breakage of the container collecting faeces and contamination of the ISS.

In December of 2019 the Russian part of the ISS allowed the astronauts of the United States to use their toilet because of the broken American. A month earlier, NASA reported that the space station is out of order all the toilets: the us does not work due to the constant indications of malfunction, the Russian — because of the alarm in a crowded tank.
