the heads of major Russian museums have sent letters to Russian President Vladimir Putin, his assistant Vladimir Medinsky and the head of the presidential administration Anton Vaino, asking to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the situation around the artistic heritage of the Roerichs, and to assist in her timessolution. About it writes RBC.
Directed in the February letter was signed by Hermitage Director Mikhail Piotrovsky, Director of the State Museum of fine arts named after Pushkin Marina Loshak, Director of the Tretyakov gallery Zelfira Tregulova and more – a total of 13 people.
According to the authors of the letter, the international Roerich center, Roerich’s national Committee and other public organizations “begin to dictate, often amateurish and unprofessional conditions for storage and exhibition of works of Roerichs”. This was told by one of the signatories, Director General of the Museum of Oriental art, Alexander Sedov.
In a letter to the assistant to the President Piotrovsky announced the establishment of the Commission, which will deal with the preservation of the Roerich heritage. As told by Marina Loshak, the Commission, which included the Director and senior curators of museums and conservators, will make recommendations on working with the collection and its exhibition. “In the situation of the Roerichs’ heritage is really a problem of technical properties, but the Ministry of culture has allocated money for their permission,” she added.
In 2017 art collection of the International centre of the Roerichs moved to Federal property – to the Museum of the East, and in 2019 its exposure began at ENEA. However, this provoked the objections of the center, whose representatives complained that the temperature and humidity regimes in the pavilion do not meet the necessary requirements. According to them, the legacy of the artist should be returned to the center and exhibited in the Lopukhins ‘ estate.
the Head of the State research Institute of restoration (Gosniir) Dmitry Antonov said that the conditions for exhibiting paintings in the estate were wrong. “This building of the XVII-XVIII centuries, without waterproofing, there is mold, fungus, it requires serious, long-term, comprehensive restoration”, – he said. According to him, at ENEA, “conditions are better, although they are far from ideal”. Representatives of the center, in turn, claim that the room at ENEA represents the warehouse where the paintings “hanging carpet”, fall and suffer because of the temperature difference.
the authors of the letter to the President saying that the views of the International centre of the Roerichs neglect of collection is not true. “The Roerichs’ heritage should be approached as professionally and carefully as the legacy of any major artist. But does this mean that people who may need a professional to solve this problem, can pressure people are unprofessional, far from the actual Museum practice?” – said Marina Loshak.
Alexander Sedov stressed that no change in the condition of paintings, exhibited at ENEA, at the moment is not revealed. The results of the inspection of the Prosecutor General unknown to him, but judging by the interim assessments fire control and epidemiology, “there are no global problems” there.
the Reason for the appeal to the country’s leadership was “some nervousness of the team” of Museum staff who work with the heritage of the Roerichs, said Sedov. “Following us since November, to work in such conditions is quite difficult and the overall situation continues for 25 years, he said. Is time to finish.”
the New Minister of culture Olga Lyubimova, on 18 February, did not rule out that the collection of the Roerichs can return to the estate Lopukhins.
