The EU will restrict exports of technologies that could be used for repression and mass surveillance in Hong Kong amid the liquidation of Beijing autonomy of the region, writes Reuters with reference to the relevant document, which is available to journalists.

"(the EU – approx. Gazetasi) carefully examine and limit the export of sensitive equipment and technologies for targeted use of Hong Kong, in particular those in respect of which there is a reasonable suspicion in undesired operation", – the document says.

It is expected that the new rules will be published on July 28.

In 1997 Britain handed Hong Kong to China on the terms "One country, two systems". The city should maintain the autonomy, and its inhabitants – a wide political rights, including freedom of speech and Assembly, until 2047. After the adoption of the law on national security authorities of the PRC there were ample opportunities to restrict civil freedoms in the region.
