Now the Sun goes through eleven-year minimum of activity, which should be characterized by moderate geomagnetic activity, as well as rare and predictable magnetic storms. However, up to yesterday’s forecasts was that most likely the first such event awaited by the planet in March, so the event was relatively unexpected.
Over the past year on the planet was observed more than ten magnetic storms, among which two were classified as “medium”, one as “strong” and the other was weak. It should be noted that not all relevant events have been accurately predicted – sometimes the magnetic perturbations become experts by surprise or, on the contrary, did not show itself in the days when that was expected.
Many scientists believe that the weak and even moderate magnetic storms, contrary to popular perception, people pass almost unnoticed.
