The coronavirus has mutated, and now scientists have isolated two types of pathogen

the New data obtained by scientists from the School of life Sciences of Peking University and the Pasteur Institute in Shanghai, show that the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 mutated and divided into two types (now doctors will excrete L – and S-type).

They also found that a more aggressive type of the novel coronavirus (L-type) accounted for about 70% of the analyzed strains, while 30% was a less aggressive S-type.

L-type of the pathogen spread in the early stages of the outbreak in Wuhan. But the frequency of appearance of the coronavirus that type from the beginning of January started to decline.

S-type is a “descendant” of the L-type. In an article published in the journal National Science Review, the researchers suggest that his appearance was probably caused by mutations and natural selection in addition to recombination.

Scholars of China, however, warn that the data that were analyzed in this study are still very limited. And only subsequent analysis of a larger set of data will help to understand the evolution and the epidemiology of the disease COVID-19.

In particular, experts ask colleagues as soon as possible to explore new genomic data, epidemiological indicators and compare the records of clinical symptoms of novel coronavirus infection.

earlier, experts have found that SARS-CoV-2 can be transmitted from mother to fetus during pregnancy, and said that the coronavirus can be a seasonal disease.

Also “News.Science” ( said why the coronavirus pandemic of a new type should be treated with the utmost seriousness.
