Deputy Director of the national energy Institute Alexander Frolov explained to US dependence on Russian oil, reports IA “NSN”.
He explained that starting in 2016 the U.S. increased production to 13 million barrels per day, whereas previously they were at 8.4 million. Frolov added that the growth is mainly due to shale oil.
“This oil is light and ultra-light, which in its pure form is not very suitable for American refineries being unable to meet the demand of the refinery simply because of their physico-chemical characteristics. They need to be mixed with a viscous, heavy grades,” – said the expert.
Deputy Director of the national energy Institute said that the US is not only the world’s largest oil producer, but also one of its largest importers. The country imports about 7-8 million barrels per day.
“typically, the US bought large amounts of oil in Venezuela, but U.S. authorities imposed sanctions on the country. And here the United States could help Iran with its oil, but the United States imposed sanctions against Iran,” – said Frolov.
He said that the U.S. “has to” work with Canada and Russia over the abdication of the USA from the two major countries that could significantly help the country to oil imports.
Earlier it was reported that the US sanctions against Iran and Venezuela helped Russia increase in physical expression oil export in 2019. From January to November last year exports of crude oil increased by 3.8% in physical terms.
