Technology eSim – built-in chip memory, which store information about the phone number and rate. When switching from one operator to another, it is sufficient to load the new information. Apple has almost three years of releasing gadgets with chips eSim. Apple smartphones was joined by some models of Samsung and Huawei, however, the proliferation of technology has not yet received, because we are talking about the premium segment.

In Russia, the development of technology is complicated by the suspended legal status of virtual SIM cards. All operators currently only testing the system. During a pandemic operators have launched the remote design of the classic SIM cards- using a remote identity. But eSim is not yet possible, the customer must contact the passport office operator. The card is activated via QR code.

In the Ministry of communications has been intensively discussed. To solve the problem with the remote design of the eSim, it is necessary to prepare a regulatory framework. The press service of the Ministry said that the Ministry stands for the authentication using a Single biometric system that allows you to identify the users by face and voice (but for this we first need to provide their biometric samples in one of the banks). The use of this system for the registration of virtual SIM cards is still under consideration. At the end of 2019 in EBS data were collected on 110 thousand people.

In June, the economic development Ministry has published a bill that allows operators to independently identify subscribers with biometric technologies. This method could be an alternative to EBS.

From the big four while only MTS has launched the results of virtual SIM cards. The company believes that a full run eSim will be logical, when it will be possible to issue them without visits, without additional applications and vouchers.

VimpelCom expect to start remote logging eSim in the near future for the customers from Moscow and St. Petersburg. To connect to the network, the company says, it will be possible in 5 minutes, including the portal of state services.
