Design size of only one square meter allows to grow fish and vegetables. And fits in the kitchen. According to the developers, it can help to breed tench, carp, tilapia and even sturgeon.
Mobile mini-farm, which has no analogues in Russia was created by the students and teachers of the Department “Aquaculture” Astrakhan state technical University (ASTU).
“This container is made of food grade plastic, for our project we have improved: divided into two levels: the lower fish, and upper plants are grown,” says the author of the idea, a student first year master’s students in ASTU Elena Evgrafova, demonstrating the application installed in the laboratory compact farm.
the Water between the two levels continuously circulates from the fish with a pump it goes up to the plants. Those roots absorb the remaining fish waste organic: it contains useful nitrogenous compounds. Thus, plants serve as the biofilter, and the purified water descends again to the lower module. – here is a cycle. In addition, the design of the farm allows you to protect a section of the aquaculture from the extra light – it causes algal blooms and reducing oxygen.
Siberian inventors have learned to grow in space for herbs and vegetables
to create such a mechanism it took about two years. The installation turned out small in size and inexpensive in cost about 30 thousand rubles. The Helen project created with the support of his teacher, the associate Professor of the Department “Aquaculture” Lina Egutkina.
“We studied world literature: all breakthrough techniques, – said the teacher. – First, the idea of a University, then the Agency strategic initiatives – needed tools for the development of competences of city farming in the field of aquaculture areas in which our University has accumulated rich experience.”
during the same period, Lina Lagutkina have found that living in the fish ponds the microorganisms can not be disposed of after the release of the fish as it is doing now, and used in the production of food for crayfish. Such food is cheaper the traditional feed twenty times: only 150-200 rubles per kilogram instead of 3-4 thousand. The teacher has patented the design, and for testing the mini-farm scientists chose the breeding of crayfish. But this is not the limit.
by the Way, city-farming in Russia is included in the Atlas of new professions the Agency for strategic initiatives, as this is a global trend. More and more people tend to live in cities, and the development of advanced agricultural technologies in the context of urbanization gives the opportunity to save money and have quality products.
