Voting on amendments to the Basic law of the country has become a plebiscite on the consolidation of society around President Vladimir Putin hopes for stability, order and overcoming the most difficult challenges facing the country, said Thursday the mayor of Moscow Sergey Sobyanin.

The mayor believes that this factor caused such a high turnout, recorded on Wednesday, July 1.

"Country, citizens, Muscovites made a clear and unequivocal choice, – noted Sobyanin. – Select from slipping into chaos to the complex, difficult but positive move forward".

The mayor thanked the residents of the Russian capital for a politically responsible and active position, noting that the vote took place in a dramatic period for the city and country.
