Fixed unusual algal blooms in the seas of the Arctic ocean washes the shores of Russia. Due to the early melting of ice in them, a large number of phytoplankton, which protects the planet from global warming, said the scientific Director of the hydrometeorological center of Russia Roman Vilfand.

Russia is washed by six seas of the Arctic ocean: the White, Barents, Kara, Laptev, East Siberian and Chukchi.

"the fact that the seas of the Arctic ocean adjacent to the territory of our country, sooner freed from the ice. Now there it is not enough, the sun’s rays penetrate the surface of the seas, and starts the process of their absorption by living beings. Thus, there is phytoplankton. The sea now, if you look at satellite maps like bloom. This is a clear indication that plankton a lot. And it is unusual in late July," he said.

According to Vilfand, this phenomenon is positive, because phytoplankton contribute to more fish and absorb carbon dioxide that contributes to global warming.

"If a lot of plankton, so fish a lot, so they [the sea] will be more fishing. Second – plankton absorbs carbon dioxide, the main greenhouse gas. This would appear to be an element of protection from global warming. The fact is surprising that in late July the sea of the Arctic ocean blossom", – said the meteorologist.
