a Huge array of declassified archival documents that allow to objectively assess the situation on the eve of the Second world war, newly laid Federal archival Agency on the individual Presidential library. Yeltsin.

This unique information resource called “the Second world war in the archival documents” was created by order of Vladimir Putin.

a Few months ago, in my January address to the Federal Assembly, the President said, will create the largest complex of archival documents relating to the Second world war. However, it was assumed that the materials starnot available not only for Russians, but also residents of other countries. Putin stressed that the most important objective of the formation of a public archival database should become an effective opposition to the increasing trend in our time the attempts to distort history for political purposes.

In the work on the project involved the Federal archival Agency and the archival service of the Ministry of foreign Affairs, the Ministry of defence, Federal security service, foreign intelligence Service, the Office of the President. Among presented on the portal there is a considerable amount of highly classified documents stored in the personal Fund of Stalin.

the complex will consist of several parts. Now the portal appeared the first of them, which covers the prewar period – from January 1933 (although visitors can see and some earlier materials) to August 31, 1939. It includes more than 1,700 of archival documents, photographs, newsreels. Nearly half of these historical artifacts published for the first time.

According to experts-historians, fundamentally important is the fact that for General use is presented documentary complex, formed from the collections of various public institutions. This was emphasized in an interview with RIA Novosti Director of the historical-documentary Department of the foreign Ministry of Russia Nadezhda Barinova:

“such a principle allows us to give a comprehensive picture of the development of the international situation and foreign policy of our country in the period from 1933 to 1939,.. show impartially, objectively, without using any ideological schemes, the history of the world, which led to the tragic circumstances of the beginning of world war II… we are Talking about many subjects, which formed the essence of the international situation of that period. Mainly we can talk about the phase-out of Germany from the Versailles Treaty, the militarization of the Third Reich and the transition to a policy of naked aggression. In this regard, the documents reflect the position of the Western powers to appease Germany, and Soviet attempts to create a collective security system… There are a lot of those moments that had not been the object of attention of historians of German-Polish relations, German-British relations, in particular, the Maritime agreement, which gradually formed Hitler’s sense of permissiveness, the possibility of a complete rejection of the Versailles agreements and openly directed the spearhead of its aggressive aspirations in the East…”

Barinov also mentioned that the foreign Ministry is participating in a new project, additionally, declassified a series of arianah securities. “…We have to show an unbiased, objective picture of the documents, which reflect the diverse approaches of the Soviet leadership and other countries, she said. – A fair representation of intelligence data gathered political and military intelligence of the Soviet Union…”

Posted now in electronic form, the documents are convinced of the fact, so that I would not like to see many politicians in the West in the early 1930s, Germany began to prepare the country for new wars on the European continent, including the USSR.

That this is clearly evidenced by the earliest documents available on the portal (it applies to dogitlerovsky period) – intelligence Foreign Department of the OGPU on the negotiations of the German Chancellor F. von Pappen in Paris about the formation of the Western military coalition against the Soviet Union, dated June 24, 1932.

“…Negotiations between von Papen and the French Prime Minister… was concerned with Franco-German military Alliance… it comes to… the possibility of agreement between France, Germany and Poland… it concerns not only Poland, but the salvation of the whole of Europe from the Communist danger. For concessions Germany Poland promise to reward largely in the direction of the Soviet Ukraine. If at all, will be followed by a crusade against the USSR, it would start precisely in the direction of Ukraine, under the guise of liberation of Ukraine from the Soviet yoke… If these countries will be going to Ukraine, England tries to seize the Caucasus under the guise of liberation of Georgia to seize the oil sources of the Caucasus… Japan also have the task of seizure of oil wells on Sakhalin and to attack the Soviet Union in the far East to pull back part of the red Army and to weaken the Western front for the Soviets against Poland and Romania…”

Another impressive document:

“Narkomaania and Chairman of the RVS of the USSR tov. Voroshilov. Present: head of the 4th Department of the OGPU Berzin… extract from the report of the American Ambassador in Berlin from March 10, 1933:

there are often ventilated question whether sooner or later to get a Union of Germany with Italy and Hungary, directed against Russia… the Possibility of a Franco-German speech against the “mother of Bolshevism” abouthush discontinueda. I have the opportunity to inform You of two long conferences between Mr. von Papen and the French Ambassador, in which offensive and defensive Alliance against the “Soviet threat” as a domestic political necessity for both countries, long discussionlist… In the case that the expected agreement with Poland is being implemented, Germany and Poland… should resolve the question of the corridor (to the Soviet border to the German army) that Poland would be later compensated through Russian territory…”

Interesting the first time documents in which the new German Chancellor Adolf Hitler shows his vision of the solution to global vneshnepoliticheskikh problems. In his public statements mentioned including “the expansion of German territory,” “the expansion of the German people, the purpose of which will be probably the East”… In a report to Soviet agents reported information about the secret konsultacjach leadership of Germany and England in the summer of 1933: among other things, the new führer of the German people offered the British government “to help in its fight against the Bolshevist danger” and declared that, if England starts a war with the Soviet Union, Germany will be able to send to the front against the Bolsheviks 2 million soldiers.

But is indicative of documentary evidence about the prevailing attitude towards Russia is still a European country, whose authorities are now accusing the USSR in the outbreak of the Second world war. In 1934, a Soviet agent in Tehran recorded and sent to Moscow the saying newly arrived in Iran to the Polish Ambassador: “in a few years Germany will start a war against the Soviet Union. Poland voluntarily or under duress will support it. In the case of the conflict, Poland is more profitable to be on the German side…” Then the Ambassador mentioned that in this regard he is going to “all activities… to submit to the belief of the Persians and Afghans of the need to promote their role in a future war against the Soviet Union…”

All submitted digital copies of documents provided archival description in Russian and English.

In the future, the new portal “the Second world war in archival documents” will complete several parts. The authors of the project announced that the next posted for public access a set of documents will cover the period from 1939 to 1941.
