Coronavirus can spread from a pregnant woman to her fetus through the placenta, revealed in Italy a new study.

As stated at the organized by the International AIDS society conference, Claudio Fenizia from the University of Milan and his colleagues, two children of women infected with Covid-19, was born is also infected.

the Researchers studied 31 infected with coronavirus, the woman who was in late pregnancy during a pandemic coronavirus in Italy, according to CNN. Scientists thoroughly examined the women, their children after birth, placenta, umbilical cord, vaginal fluid and mothers breast milk.

At the end of two infants were obtained at birth tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Our result suggests that vertical transmission occurred in two of 31 cases studied,” – said Dr. Finicia at the conference.

“a Virus was detected in placenta and in umbilical cord blood, into the vagina of a pregnant woman and milk,” said the researchers summarized their study.

“This is the first call that needs to raise awareness about a topic that is not very well studied,” – says Claudio Fenizia.

the Placenta also was inflamed – a sign of infection. In umbilical cord blood of a newborn was discovered antibodies indicating a recent infection. These types of antibodies usually are not transmitted from mother to child, so they point to the fact that the fetus was directly infected, says Dr. Phenicia.

thankfully, women became infected in late pregnancy, so it is unlikely that the virus will affect the development of children, said the expert. From a pregnant woman to her unborn child can be transmitted the virus, Zeke, sometimes causing serious brain damage and a condition called microcephaly.
