Scientists from the University of new Mexico found in the Islands of the Kingdom of Tonga in Oceania remains of a giant dove Tongoenas burleyi, according to the portal "Eurekalert!".

According to the portal, the length of the body discovered bird was about 50 centimeters. The weight of this pigeon exceeded the weight of modern five times.

The diet of this extinct species were mango and guava.

Tongoenas burleyi long lived in Oceania, said scientists, however, settled in the archipelago the people for a hundred years, completely destroyed the species.
